Home security is essential for every house. You don’t want to make it easy for a thief to break into your house and steal all of your valuables. On the bright side if a burglary does happen you have homeowner’s insurance that can help cover the cost of lost possessions.

Follow these tips to keep a burglar from entering your house.

Have all outside doors installed with a deadbolt lock.

You don’t want space between your door and your frame. This gives the burglar a chance to use power tools to get at the lock.

Make sure that all your doors have hinges on the inside. If they are on the outside a burglar can remove them and get into your house.

Lock all doors and window before leaving the house, always. Burglars usually get into a house through an unlocked door or window.

Secure sliding glass doors by putting a pipe or piece of wood on the track of the sliding door to keep it from moving.

If doors have glass panels on them, reinforce the panels because a thief can break the panels and unlock the door through the broken glass panel.

One of the best ways to keep out intruders is to have a home security system. Not only does this protect your house, but a house with a security system costs less to insure. Installing a security system can save you money on your Massachusetts homeowner’s insurance.

When going away for an extended period of time.

Make sure your neighbors know that you are leaving and that no one should be entering the house.

Try to keep your house from looking uninhabited. Burglars look for houses that are uninhabited, because they are easier to rob.

Have motion sensor lights near entrances to your house. No burglar wants to be lit up as they try to enter a house unnoticed.

Ask neighbors to bring out garbage cans while you are away so your house won’t appear as empty.

Home security can seem sometimes unnecessary, but you don’t want to make it easy for someone to get into your house and steal from you. One thing that you always need to do is lock your doors! No matter how long you are leaving your house for make sure to lock doors and windows because this is the easiest way for a thief to get into your house.
